Updated Loan Rules
The North Shore Library today announced updates to its policies for overdue fines and loan periods. The changes, which take effect June 1, will simplify the policies and make them more consistent and equitable across all library materials.
Items in the library’s main collection will now have an overdue fine of $ .20 per day. This includes Adult DVDs, Lucky Day DVDs and Video Games, which were previously $1.00 per day fine. Items found in the library’s “Share Shed,” which houses a collection of untraditional items available for check-out including board games and technology, will retain a $1 per day overdue fine.
“We recently reviewed our fines and loan structure and found that we had an opportunity to make our policies more clear and straightforward,” said Rhonda Gould, director of North Shore Library. “It’s our goal to create greater consistency across all of our materials for a more positive patron experience.”
“Patrons will find that loan periods have been extended on some materials and most items will have consistent renewal policies and overdue fines,” added Gould.
For example, the library’s “Lucky Day” books will have a loan period of three weeks versus the former two-week loan. In addition to longer loan periods, patrons will be able to renew most items twice, including new Adult Fiction and new Non-Fiction books, which were previously allowed only one renewal. DVDs/Blu-rays, video games, and magazines will be able to be renewed twice instead of their previous no renewal policy.
Additionally, a three-day grace period will also apply to nearly all materials, except for Lucky Day books and DVDs, Share Shed items and Explore Passes.
