La Macchia Family Donates $1,000,000 to the new North Shore Library
Children’s Section to be named in memory of Sharon La Macchia
BAYSIDE, Wis. – William (Bill) La Macchia shares, “For the last several years, my wife Sharon and I have been committed to providing the North Shore community an incredible development at the OneNorth site. Of particular interest to Sharon was the new library that is meant to be the development’s centerpiece.
Sadly, last month, Sharon passed away after a quiet, courageous five-and-half year battle against ovarian cancer. I lost my wife and my best friend of 62 years, but the community she’s been a part of for the last 42 years also lost a great champion who believed passionately in the potential of children and the power of libraries. It breaks my heart that she will not be able to see the fruits of her efforts, but I am inspired to make her legacy a part of this project forever after.
As a tribute to Sharon, I am extremely proud to pledge the sum of $1 million to the building of the new North Shore Library, but specifically for the creation of the Sharon La Macchia Children’s Section, where the next generation of North Shore leaders might one day discover their love for reading and learning.
Sharon did nothing halfway. She made everyone feel special. She loved completely. She cared deeply. She listened intently. She was filled with kindness and compassion. She radiated joy and generosity. She was warmth and light and hope, personified. My hope is that this gift will inspire others the way my wife inspires me to this day, and that it motivates others to contribute to this very worthy library project.
The people of the North Shore area deserve a world-class learning institution; Working together we will build it.”
The new North Shore Library is part of a 27.4-acre multi-use project located in the area north of West Brown Deer Road between I-43 and North Port Washington Road. The new library will occupy a 24,000-square-foot space, adjacent to an outdoor plaza, on the ground level of a mixed-use building, with residential units or offices above it. A capital campaign is underway to complement the public investment in the project.
About North Shore Library: The library serves Bayside, Fox Point, Glendale and River Hills.
